Subject: It is the occupation......

July 29, 2007

The Editor,

The Globe & Mail.

Dear Editor:

In your editorial, {"A 'sense of possibility'" July 29.}, you describe Palestinian resistance as terrorism. Resistance against foreign occupation is legitimate under international law and the UN Charter. Why, pray, are the Palestinian people, of all other people under foreign occupation, denied this legitimate right?

You speak of a possibility of peace, yet there is no mention of the brutal illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, that has been allowed to stand for 40 years, in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council resolutions. The Palestinian people have been calling for peace for decades, but, alas, Israel continues its acts of state terror, detention of thousands without charge or trial, confiscation of property and expansion of illegal settlements, all in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Peace and security for Palestinians and Israelis can be assured if Israel will terminate completely its illegal occupation of Palestinian land and comply with UN resolutions.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid.
