Amin Abu-Hassira,

Chief Palestine Delegate,

Dear Ambassador Abou-Hassira:

We are alarmed and devastated to hear that the Palestine Authority  withdrew its draft Resolution supporting the recommendations contained in the Goldstone Report on Gaza , resulting in a deferral of a vote to endorse the report in the Human Rights Council, to March 2010.

The decision of the Palestine Authority to favour pursuing illusory peace negotiations with Israel, which continues to build illegal settlements in the West Bank and subject the Palestinian people to the most brutal and degrading illegal occupation, defies credibility.

The Palestine Authority [PA] has been conducting peace negotiations with Israel for decades to no avail. Does the leadership of PA believe that they will achieve any just resolution of this conflict by negotiating with Binyamin Netanyahu, who is imposing the most humiliating conditions on the Palestinian people?

The submission of th resolution supporting the Goldstone Report to the UN Human Rights Council provides an opportunity for international support for subjecting the Israeli leadership to trial for the war crimes they committed against our people in Gaza, and a possible measure of accountability and some justice for the Palestinian people who continue to demand the complete termination of the illegal Israeli occupation they are subjected to and compliance with international law and UN resolutions, including their fundamental Right of Return to their homes.

We call upon you to bring our serious concern to the attention of the Palestinian leaders. We firmly believe that the delay in bringing the resolution before the UN Human Rights Council is a serious negative blow to our cause. Our people are calling for determination to achieve justice and peace in our tortured homeland.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, MD.

President, Canada Palestine Association.
