The Right Hon. Mr. Stephen Harper MP.

Prime Minister,

Ottawa.

Dear Mr. Harper:

Your reported statement, accusing the current Palestinian government, Hamas, of being genocidal, reflects incredible bias and total denial of the historic facts related to the Palestine/ Israel conflict. If there is any genocide in the Holy Land, it is the genocide to which the Palestinian people have been subjected to, in war crimes committed by Israel, as confirmed by international and Israeli historians, as well as international human rights groups, like Amnesty International and the Israeli human rights group, B'Tselem.

The Palestinian people have been ethnically-cleansed from their homeland and millions of refugees remain living, for decades, in atocious conditions in refugee camps, denied the right of return to their homes, in defiance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and repeated UN resolutions. Over 500 Palestinian towns and villages have been erased from the face of the earth, by Israel. Furthermore, Israel continues to deny the Palestinian people their right of self determination as a people on their own homeland.

The Israeli practices in the Palestinian territories, illegally occupied for over 39 years, including extra-judicial assassination, torture, demolition of thousands of homes and expropriation of property for the creation of illegal colonies, are all in violation of virtually every article of the Fourth Geneva Convention. It is of relevance to remind you that Article One of the Convention requires all High Contracting Parties, including Canada, to take action to see that the Convention is not violated by any state.

It is time that our political leaders act in accordance with the claims that our country, Canada, makes of upholding the UN Charter and international law and human rights, and set aside their biases for political gain.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, MD.

President, Canada Palestine Association.
