Dear Editor:

There they go again; putting words into my mouth..

Mr. David Silver says {Nov. 16} that I was calling for "continuation of violence". That is a total falsehood. I call again for the implementation of U.N. and Security Council resolutions and allow the Palestinians to have their truly independent state on only 22% of historic Palestine, and not the ghettos or the ‘bantustans’ that Mr. Barak is proposing for them. Thus the two states can live in peace together.

Mr. Silver claims that he is "not blind to the plight of the Palestinian people." If so, we plead with him to call on Mr. Barak, like many Israeli Jewish people of conscience who have already done so, to comply with international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, and withdraw from the illegally- occupied territories, of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. Thus, we can have peace and good neighbourly relations.

Yours sincerely

Ismail Zayid, MD.
