The Editor,
The Halifax Herald.

Dear Editor:

Your editorial [ "Muscular restraint" Jan 11] displays an incredible degree of insensitivity and blatant bias. To depict Israel as the innocent victim fighting terrorism shows a total blindness to the facts. There is not a single word about the oppressive Israeli  illegal occupation of Palestinian territory, that has been allowed to stand for over 34 years, in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council resolutions. There is not a single word about the collective punishment inflicted against Palestinians, in defiance of The Fourth Geneva Convention. There is not a single word about the 73 homes demolished yesterday in Rafah, in the Gaza Strip, carried out by Israeli bulldozers, leaving 125 families and a thousand men, women and children homeless. There is not a word about the hundreds of Palestinians, forty percent of whom are children, that have been killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers.

It is time that you begin to see that even Israel must be subject to international law, and that even Palestinians deserve to be treated like human beings.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, M.D.
