The Right Hon. Mr. Jean Chretien M.P.,
The Prime Minister,
Dear Mr. Chretien,
Deplorable as the killing of innocent civilians is, be they Israelis or Palestinians, Jews, Muslims or Christians, we note, today, your statement condemning the killing of two Israelis in Jerusalem and "expressing revulsion at the cowardly and vicious act". Interestingly, we have not heard such expressions from your self, or our Government, for the killing of two Palestinian youths, the same day, by Israeli soldiers, or for the killing of 150 Palestinians, mostly children throwing stones, by Israeli soldiers using live ammunition during the last five weeks.
We are perplexed by this practice of double standards, and trust that you do not consider Palestinian life so cheap? Palestinian children have grieving mothers too.
Ismail Zayid, M.D.
President, Canada Palestine Association.
