Subject: Wiesel's double standards.

Dear Ms. Anne Petrie:

In the "Moral Divide" today, Oct.14, Mr. Elie Wiesel enunciates an impressive display of sophistry and double standards.

While rightly condemning the brutal killing of the victims of Sep. 11, he finds it acceptable to justify the killing of innocent Afghani men, women and children in the bombing of Afghanistan by the US and Britain.

He later says he is opposed to injustice. That is strange, coming from someone who unquestioningly supports and voices no criticism of Israeli illegal occupation of Palestinian territory and Israel's brutal oppression of Palestinians, including their illegal detention, torture, murder, expropriation of their land and demolition of thousands of their homes, all in violation of international law and The Fourth Geneva Convention.

It is time for those who wish to pronounce on morality to be consistent, as Israel must not be allowed to remain above international law.

Yours sincerely

Ismail Zayid, MD.
