Subject: It is the occupation,......

Feb. 23,2004

The Editor,
The Globe & Mail.

Dear Editor:

Mark Heller, in his article {"Unwanted but necessary" Feb.23}, indulges in sophiscated diatribe about Israeli sensitivities and Palestinian terrorism. There is not a single word about the sole cause for these manifestations, which is the illegal and oppressive Israeli  occupation of Palestinian land, that has been allowed to stand for 37 years, in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council resolutions. If Israel is truly concerned about the security of its citizens, all it needs to do is terminate completely this illegal occupation, making this illegal wall unnecessary.

It is the height of hypocrisy for Mr. Heller to speak of Syria and Morroco violating a Security Councli resolution but makes no mention of Israeli violation and defiance of scores of Security Council resolutions, or am I forgetting that Israel is above international law?

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, MD.
