The Editor,
The Globe & Mail.

Dear Editor:

Marcus Gee, in his article :{" Guilty until proven innocent" Jan.31}, states : "Iraq is no ordinary nation. in 1991, it put itself ouside the law by invading a fellow nation. The international community, through the UN, declared that illegal and forced Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait."  Would Mr. Gee apply the same logic to other nations? Israel, in 1967, it put itself outside the law by invading Egypt, Syria and the West Bank, and remains to this day in illegal occupation of Syrian and Palestinian territory, 35 years later, in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council resolutions. In 1978 and 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon and maintained its illegal occupation for more than 22 years.

As to weapons of mass destruction,Israel has nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. It has even used chemical weapons in 1997, when its Prime Minister, Mr Netanyahu, sent his Mossad agents, with Canadian passports, to assassinate Mr. Khalid Meshal, in Amman.

Evidently, Israel is above international law.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, MD.
