Subject: Blatant aggression.

Oct. 15,2003

The Editor,
The Globe & Mail.

Dear Editor:

Norman Spector's diatribe, {" Why Israel attacked Syria" Oct. 15}, defies logic and credibility. He justifies Israel's act of blatant aggression, in defiance of international law and the UN Charter, as an act of self defence, when there was no shred of evidence that any training camps exist at the bombing site. Be that as it may, Israeli occupation of Syrian territory, that has been allowed to stand for 36 years in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council resolutions, passes unnoticed.

Mr. Spector speaks of Palestinian terrorism but Israeli state terrorism , demolishing thousands of homes, killing hundreds of innocent men, women and children, collective punishment, expropriation of property and daily humiliation, all in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and tantamount to war crimes, deserve no mention.

Surely the readers of the Globe & Mail desrve better than that.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, M.D.
