The Editor,
The Globe & Mail

Dear Editor:

Ms. Anne Bayefsky's diatribe is clearly endless :{ " A dangerous UN game" Oct. 3}. The UN and the rest of the world is biased against Israel, we are told. However Israel is allowed to wage aggresive wars against its neighbours and maintain an illegal occupation for 35 years, in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council resolutions. Throughout this occupation, Israel is violating virtually every article of the Fourth Geneva Convention, acts which are tantamount to war crimes, as defined by international law. To Ms. Bayefsky the atrocites and war crimes committed in Jenin are a myth. These very acts have been clearly identified as war crimes by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Israeli human rights organisation B'Tselem and many UN observers. If these crimes are a myth, why does Israel refuse to allow UN inspectors, as ordered in Security Council resolution #1405, and is allowed to receive a deafening silence from the very governments that are planning to wage war against Iraq for interference with UN inspectors? This is not to mention that Israel aleady has nuclear, chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction. Israel has already used its chemical weapons in the attempt to assassinate Khalid Meshal, in Amman, in 1997, when, the then prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu sent his Mossad agents, carrying Canadian passports, to Amman, Jordan. Israel is also working on the development of The Ethnic Bomb, that would kill Arabs and spare Jews, at its Biological Institute in Nes Tziyona { The Sunday Times and The Calgary Herald  and The Sunday Herald [Halifax] Nov. 15, 1998].

How long must Israel remain above international law, and its unquestioning apologists allowed this campaign of disinformation?

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, MD.
