The Editor,
The Halifax Herald.

Dear Editor:

In her article, Dec. 30,titled : " God says 'live here' and that's it", Laurie Copans is using the quote verbalised by an Israeli settler in the Ginnot Arieh settlement on Palestinian territory. I was not aware that God is a real-estate agent who apportions land. This land, in accordance with international law and legal ownership and entitlement, belongs to Palestinians. All Israeli settlements [colonies], established in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, and not just the few ouposts that Sharon talks about, are illegal, as clearly articulated in the Fourth Geneva Convention and Security Council resolutions.

It is time that the US and its allies, who claim to speak for the free world, must apply pressure on Israel to comply with international law and terminate completely its illegal occupation of the Palestinian territory, that has been allowed to stand for 36 years in violation of international law and repeated Security Council resolutions. Only thus we can have peace and security for both the Israeli and Palestinian people.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid,M.D.
