Ralph Seliger, in his letter in Nov./Dec.
2008 issue, makes a number of statements that are contrary to historic facts.
The Plan Dalet, though signed in March 1948, was actually formulated
in Dec. 1947. It stated: " These operations can be carried out in the
following manner: either by destroying villages [by setting fire to them, by
blowing them up and by planting mines in their rubble] and especially those population
centres that are difficult to control permanently; or
by mounting combing and control operations according to the following guidlines: encirclement of villages, conducting a search
inside them. In case of resistance, the armed forces must be wiped out and the
population expelled outside the borders of the state". {Plan D [Dalet] of the Hagana, drafted
Dec. 1947}, as exactly quoted in { "An
Israeli in Palestine" Jeff Halper,
2008, p.97}.
He states: " The true moral question of ethnic cleansing comes
after Arab forces were defeated or contained in mid-to late 1948, when the
threat had receded." The facts are that the Zioinst
designs, for the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians from their native land,
were formulated as far back as 1895, byTheodorHerzl, the father of
Zionism. He stated: " We shall try to spirit the
penniless [Arab] population across the border.... Both the process of
expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discretely and
circumspectly." { fromR.Patai,
ed. The complete diaries of ThodorHerzl, Vol.1}. This plan was reaffirmed by all
future Zionist leaders, including Joseph Weitz, Chief
Representative of the Jewish Agency and Director of the Jewish National
Fund, and David Ben Gurion, Israel's first prime minister. Ben Gurion, when announcing the creation of Israel, on May 14,
1948,
refused to define its borders. He stated we are creating a state in the western
part of our country. Israel is the only state in the world that
has no defined borders. He later stated in his diaries, after conquest of
78% of historic Palestine : " To maintain the status quo
will not do. We have set up a dynamic state bent upon expansion.".{ BenGurion diaries,
edited by Michael Bar-Zohar, and published in 1954}
Furthermore, Mr.
Seliger speaks of Arab states invading Israel on May 15,
1948. Before a single Arab soldier entered Palestine on May 15,
1948, Israel had occupied scores of cities,
including Acre and Jaffa, and towns that were
apportioned to the Arabs in the partition plan, and drove over 300,000
Palestinians from their homes, besides the scores of massacres committed by the
Zionist terrorist gangs. The process of ethnic cleansing continued afterwards,
as long-planned.
It is time
that Israel's apologists begin to look at the
historic facts. The Palestinian peolpe are calling
for a modicum of justice and compliance with international law, so that
both Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace and security in this tortured
land.
