The Hon. Ms. Alexa McDonough, MP.
The House of Commons,
Ottawa.
Dear Ms. McDonough:
I wish to thank you for forwarding to us a copy of
your "Global Perspectives".
We are impressed and fully support your concern
about human rights and humanitarian issues in the Horn of Africa,
Eritrea, Iran, India, Southern Africa and Haiti.
However, we are surprised that the list of issues
and peoples you express concern about does not appear to extend to the
Palestinian people, who have been subjected to a most oppresive
an brutal occupation, that stands for decades in defiance of international law
and repeated Security Council resolutions. As you know, their human
rights are violated on a daily basis, as confirmed by all international human
rights groups, including Israeli human rights groups, including B'Tselem. They
are subjected to torture, daily humiliation and their homes are demolished
and their land is exoropriated for the creation of illegal
settlements.
The occupying power, Israel, is in violation of
virtually every article in the Fourth Geneva Convention, and
these violations are defined by international law as war
crimes.
Do we understand that your concerns and
those of the NDP, as related to international law and human rights, are so
selective that they do not include the continuing suffering and ethnic
cleansing to which the Palestinian people are subjected?
Yours sincerely,
Ismail Zayid, MD.
President, Canada Palestine
Association.
