Dear Editor:
Jeff Sallot's report {"Neutrality key to
Mideast visit" May 5} misrepresents facts. East Jerusalem, as repeatedly
reaffirmed by Security Council resolutions, is illegally occupied territory and
not "disputed territory".
Mr. Manley's statement, that the plight of
Palestinian refugees: "is up to Israel and the Palestinians to decide what
will happen to refugees in a peace agreement ", evades international law.
The Palestinian refugees have the right to return to their
homes, as stipulated in repeatedly reaffirmed UN resolution # 194 and The
Universal Declaration of Human rights. It is the responsibility of the UN and
all member nations, including Canada, to see that UN resolutions and
international law are implemented and complied with by all nations, including
Israel.
Yours sincerely
Ismail zayid, MD
