Dear Editor:

The voice of Amira Hass {Sylvain Cypel's article "The Israeli voice Palestinians respect" Dec. 28} is the voice of conscience and humanity. It is the voice of someone who knows oppression and de-humanisation, as practiced by Israel in the Occupied Territories. She is a Holocaust survivor, like Professor Israel Shahak, whose courageous voice must be allowed to reverberate throughout the Holy Land, so that peace with justice can be engendered in this tortured land. The voices of Amira Hass, Israel Shahak, Felicia Langer, Uri Avneri, Jeff Halper and many Israelis like them, and not those of Barak, Sharon and Nethanyahu, give us hope that Palestinians and Israelis may yet come to live in peace together one day.

Yours sincerely

Ismail Zayid, MD.
