Subject: Freedom from occupation.
Dec. 18,2004

The Editor,
The Globe & Mail.

Dear Editor;

Mr. frank Dimant, in his letter:{"Stop fingering Israel" Dec. 18}, preaches to the Palestinians about freedom and democracy. It is the freedom from occupation that the Palestinians are struggling for. They require freedom from an illegal occupation that has been allowed to stand for over 37 years, in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council resolutions. Under this occupation, their basic human rights have been violated, and Israel stands in violation of virtually every article of the Fourth Geneva Convention. These Israeli actions are war crimes, as defined by international law.

It is time for Israel, and its apologists, to recognise that it cannot remain above international law.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid.
