Subject: Condoning war crimes.
July 22, 2006.
The Editor,
The Globe & Mail.
Dear Editor:
In your editorial, {"Israel and Hezbollah" July
22}, you state: "... an immediate ceasefire could do more harm than
good". It is simply outrageous to condone the massive destruction of
Lebanon, the murder of hundreds and the continuing Israeli war crimes.
You describe Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1978
and 1982, 1993 and 1996. as a response to cross-border attacks on Israel.
That is completely false and the historic facts ascertain that. Hezbollah was
created after Israeli invasion in 1982, to resist this illegal
occupation. During these invasions, Israel orchestrated and committed massive
massacres, including the Sabra and Shatilla massacres,in 1982, and the Qana
massacre in 1996. These massacres have been condemned by the UN and massive
Israeli public crowds and human rights groups.
You refer to Lebanese non-compliance with
Security Council resolution #1559, but make no mention of the scores of UNGA and
Security Council resolutions that Israel continues to defy, including its
illegal occupation of Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese territory that has been
allowed to stand for 39 years.
How long must Israel be allowed to remain above
international law?
Sincerely,
Ismail Zayid
