The Editor,
The Globe & Mail.
Dear Editor:
In his article, { "One eye on the road map.." May 26}, Norman Spector
states: " The ball now is in the Palestinian court - where it belongs. The
violence over the past 32 months has largely been of their making, the Israeli
violence mainly defensive." There is not a single word about the illegal
occupation that has been allowed to stand for 36 years,
in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council
resolutions.
Under this illegal occupation, the Palestinians have been
subjected to imrisonment without charge or trial, torture, extra-judicial
execution, daily humiliation, demolition of thousands of their homes, uprooting
of their trees and expropriation of their land for the creation of
illegal settlements. All these acts are in violation of the Fourth
Geneva Convention, and are tantamount to war crimes, under
international law, and have been condemned by all international and Israeli
human rights organisations.
Is it possible for Mr. Spector and Israeli apologists to look at the
facts?
Yours sincerely,
Ismail Zayid, M.D.
