Subject: Security Councel in mockery
May 1,2002
The Editor,
The Globe & Mail.
Dear Editor:
In your editorial { "Sharon and Jenin" May 1} you express
concern for Israel's credibility for rejecting the UN fact-finding inspector's
commission to Jenin. One wonders about concern for the UN credibility in
its sumission to this Isaeli rejection, clearly condoned by the US.
It may be of interest to recall that the US and its allies are
preparing for war against Iraq for its refusal to allow UN inspectors to return
to Iraq, based on a similar UN Security Council resolution.
Are we,hence, to expect US and UK plans for war or
sanctions against Israel? Alas, this recent Security Council resolution is
amongst scores of UN and Security Council resolutions that Israel continues to
defy for decades. How long must Israel be allowed to remain above international
law , and how long will this practice of double standards continue?
Yours Sincerely
Ismail Zayid
