The Editor,
The Globe & Mail.

Dear Editor:

Marcus Gee,in his article { "Don't worry, Iraq is all he wants" Sept. 20,2002} justifies US plans to invade Iraq and change its regime. He lists three counts that he claims to apply to Iraq only. He refers to other regimes, including Iran and North Korea. Obviously,as usual, there is no mention of Israel, where all his three counts apply fully. The three counts he lists are : (a) "Iraq backed and harboured terrorists". Israel has not only practiced a litany of acts of state terrorism, but a number of its own prime ministers were recognised, internationally, as terrorists. He lists: (b) Iraq "made war against two neighbours". Israel has invaded, repeatdly, the territory of many of its neighbours, including Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, and continues to this day to occupy Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese territory, in defiance of Security Council resolutions. He lists:(c) Iraq "spent billions of dollars trying to acquire weapons of mass murder". Israel has not only "tried" to acquire these weapons but has fully developed nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. Israel has even used chemical weapons in  its attempt to assassinate Khalid Meshal in Amman, Jordan, in 1997,on the direct orders of prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

It is time that this practice of double standards comes to an end, and our people are not subjected to this practice of disinformation.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, M.D.
