Dear Editor:

Your editorial:{" The wrong man quit" Sept. 8} displays distortion of facts and bias. The failure of the Road Map is primarily, if not entirely,  the direct outcome of Sharon's openly declared policy of refusal to abide with international law and deliberate provocative attacks against Paletinians, with the object of stimulating acts of retaliation. On June 4, President Bush, with Sharon and Abbas, in Aqaba, formulated formally the Road Map. The next day, June 5, Sharon sent his forces and assassinated two Palestinians near Tulkarm. On June 10, Sharon's forces attempted the assassination of Aziz Rantisi, a political leader of Hamas. These acts,  together with other similar attacks and home demolitions, took place before Hamas undertook its attacks including the tragic bus suicide bombing.

It is time that our political leaders and media should be calling for unconditional complete termination of Israeli illegal occupation of Palestinian territory that has been allowed to remain for 36 years, in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council resolutions, and violation of every article of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Israel must not be allowed to remain above international law.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, M.D.
