Subject: How about sticking to facts?.
18 Feb. 2002
The Editor,
The Halifax Herald.
Dear Editor:
Your correspondents Fran Morrison, Edward Pencer and Bob
MacLaughlin { letters feb. 18} are reproducing old fables as historic facts. As I
indicated in my previous letter {"Blaming the Victims" Feb. 6} the Israeli
propaganda claims about current Palestinian school textbooks have been refuted
by independent American scholars. The studies are available for those who care
to know the truth.
The PLO National Charter of 1968, that Bob MacLaughlin quotes,
was abolished as part of the Oslo agreement in 1993, and was finally annulled by
a vote in the Palestine National Council, held in Gaza in the presence of
President Clinton in 1996.
The abhorent killing of Palestinian and Israeli innocent
civilians is the direct result of the illegal Israeli occupation
of Palestinian territory that has been allowed to stand for 35 years,
in defiance of repeated Security Council resolutions. Israel and its apologists
must take heed of international law and there will be peace for
all.
Yours sincerely
Ismail zayid
