The Right Hon. Mr. Jean
Chretien
The Prime Minister,
Ottawa
Dear Mr.
Chretien:
Your statement on Aug. 9, related to
the bomb attack in Jerusalem, demonsrates a new dimension in selective humanity
and double standards.
Abhorent as is the killing of innocent
civilians, be they Israelis or Palestinians, it is remarkable that we have not
heard of your outrage and condemnation of the killing of innocent Palestinians,
by Israeli forces or settlers. We assume that you do not consider the ground-to-
ground missiles, or rockets from F16's or Apache helicopter gunships, killing
and mutilating Palestinian men, women and children, as 'cowardly', but evidently
the height of bravery and courage on the part of the pilots and the politicians,
who dispatch them.
Mr. Chretien, it is outrageous for our
country to continue to condone Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian land
with the associated brutal repression and violation of the human rights of
Palestinians, in defiance of international law and repeated Security Council
resolutions and the Fourth Geneva Convention. International law
and UN resolutions entitle all people to resist foreign occupation. We all
supported the French resistance fighters against the Nazi foreign
occupation.
We call on our government to condemn
Israel's illegal occupation and defiance of international law and call for an
immediate withdrawal of an occupation that has been allowed to stand for over 34
years. This is the surest way for peace and security for all people in the Holy
Land.
Yours
sincerely
Ismail Zayid,
MD.
